New prenatal vitamin discovers unique formula with ginger for pregnancy nausea

Pregnancy + Ginger formula has 1000mg of ginger content

Toronto, ON – Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy remains one of the unpleasant and somewhat mysterious side effects of a woman’s changing body during this time in her life. According to Motherisk, some 80 per cent of all pregnant women suffer from ‘morning sickness’ from the first seven to 12 weeks, though some 20 per cent will suffer from these symptoms for a longer period of time, possibly for the duration of the pregnancy.

While prescription medications are available to women in need, many pregnant women are reluctant to take drugs they feel may carry unwanted risks to them, or their unborn child. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), taking a multivitamin from the time of conception and throughout the life of a pregnancy may decrease the severity of nausea and vomiting. Ginger in particular has shown beneficial effects and is considered a non-pharmacologic option.

Health Canada supports claims that ginger has been clinically shown to help prevent nausea and vomiting and has traditionally been used in herbal medicine to help relieve these symptoms.

Pre-natal vitamins containing ginger are not widely available on the market. In particular, femMED’s new Pregnancy + Ginger formula has 1000 milligrams of ginger shown to clinically prevent symptoms of nausea and vomiting. In addition, femMED uses ginger root powder because the majority of clinical studies conducted on pregnant woman have used the powdered form.

“I am thrilled to finally see the inclusion of a safe anti-nauseate like ginger in a high quality prenatal,” said Dr. Fay Weisberg, Gynecology and Infertility Specialist. “Up to 80 per cent of pregnant women experience some level of nausea and vomiting particularly in their first trimester; this remedy will be well received and a welcome relief to many.”

“With femMED’s new Pregnancy + Ginger supplement, women have an alternative; they get a high quality, comprehensive prenatal formula with the added benefit of ginger, a proven antinausea ingredient,” said Shawna Page, Founder and CEO of femMED.

Page created femMED when she found that searching the aisles on her own for the right products was frustrating and confusing. That, combined with the lack of options available to women, gave birth to her desire to simplify things, educate and empower women to take control of their health, and create a line of products that were solution-oriented, and made sense of it all.

femMED was originally launched in the spring of 2008 with five products: Bone Health, Breast Health, Hormonal Balance, Menopause Relief and Weight Management. Eight new products have since been added to the line: Energy, Hair, Skin & Nails, Heart Health, Sleep, Libido, Multi+ Antioxidants and two pregnancy formulas (Pregnancy Before During and After, Pregnancy + Ginger).
